Complete guide to tanks for the agricultural sector

In the agricultural sector, tanks are essential for the management and storage of a wide range of liquids: whether it is diesel, Adblue or water, each fluid has specific characteristics that the tanks must preserve, while meeting safety requirements, regulatory compliance and durability.
Diesel tanks approved for the storage or transport of fuel
Diesel tanks in the agricultural sector must be of two types. On the one hand, tanks approved for diesel storage must guarantee the maximum level of safety to prevent spills and contamination of the surrounding environment. The legislation (decree of 22 November 2017) establishes precise rules on the characteristics of tanks for the storage of diesel and gas oil, which must
- have a double wall, or a collection tank capable of containing at least 110% of the tank’s capacity;
- be protected by a roof made of fireproof material against the weather or the entry of external materials;
- have a vent at least 2.4 m from the ground;
- provide the correct danger signs, and an identification plate with the name and number of the manufacturer, serial number, maximum capacity, pressure recorded during testing, construction material and thickness, details of the authorization document.
Di Camillo produces both vertical double-chamber diesel storage tanks and those equipped with a protective roof and safety tank, with various capacities from 490 to 9,000 liters (including the sizes most used in agriculture, 1,000 and 5,000 litres, i.e. 1m3 and 5 m3).
But in addition to storage tanks, Di Camillo also sells tanks for the transport of diesel from 300 to 1,000 litres, so as to allow the refueling of operating machines in any circumstance. In particular, the Di Camillo diesel transport tanks are certified by the CPABS in accordance with the ADR 2017, for the transport of flammable liquids on the road throughout Europe, without ADR vehicles or licenses.
Tanks for water and other liquids
Not just diesel: agricultural needs extend to the storage of other liquids, from rainwater for irrigation use, to chemical substances or liquid fertilizers. For the containment of fertilizers and pesticides, galvanized tanks, in different shapes and capacities (horizontal, vertical and parallelepiped, for volumes from 125 to 1,000 or 5,000 litres), represent an economical and safe containment choice.
For the storage of used oil (coming for example from engines and machinery), however, waste oil tanks compliant with the Ministerial Decree are available. 05/16/1996. Made of carbon steel painted externally with two coats of epoxy primer and two of two-component glossy polyurethane finish, they are equipped with a loading mouth (320 mm diameter) with an internal grid for dripping the filters, and one for removing the oils for control purposes.
For the storage of drinking or irrigation water at atmospheric pressure, however, polyethylene tanks are the ideal solution. They are available underground or outdoor, and with different shapes and axes of development (horizontal, vertical, parallelepiped or dinghy for large quantities), as well as variable dimensions from 300 up to 100,000 liters (with the most popular, always, from 1,000 and 5,000 litres).
For the storage of other liquids intended for human consumption (milk and oil among all), Di Camillo also creates stainless steel tanks. This material is resistant to corrosion and easily sanitized, therefore perfect for contact with food. It prevents bacterial proliferation and keeps the organoleptic properties unaltered, as well as avoiding contamination and oxidation as it is long-lasting and resistant to acids. Di Camillo stainless steel tanks are available in different sizes, with the possibility of customized shapes based on connections and measurements provided by customers, and verified by our technical office.
