Waste oil tanks: the regulations for safe management

serbatoio conforme alla normativa olio esausto

The storage of used oils represents a critical point in the management of industrial waste. Used in a wide range of sectors, from automotive to food and chemical production, if managed improperly and in cases of spills they can cause serious damage to the environment and human health, also due to the chemical components often dissolved or mixed within them .

Addressing this challenge requires careful management, and the use of tanks specifically designed to reduce pollution risks. These must guarantee safe containment of used oils, and satisfy the strict regulations established by the Ministerial Decree 16/05/1996.

Safe collection and storage of used oils – the legislation

Thedirectives of the Ministerial Decree 16/05/1996 are rather stringent on the characteristics of the tanks and cisterns for the safe storage of used oil. According to the legislation, in fact, they must possess “adequate resistance requirements in relation to the chemical-physical properties and the dangerous characteristics of the used oils contained”.

The legislation also requires that the tanks for the collection and management of used oil, in order to be approved like those of Di Camillo, are equipped with:

  1. a) closures capable of preventing the waste oils contained from leaking;
  2. b) safety devices for filling and emptying operations;
  3. c) tools that make handling safe and easy;
  4. d) specific labeling capable of identifying its contents.

Di Camillo tanks for the collection and storage of used oils

The Di Camillo waste oil storage tanks are containers compliant with the Ministerial Decree. 16/05/1996 regarding the safety, treatment and management of used oils. They are in fact made of carbon steel, a material that on the one hand gives considerable resistance, to minimize the risk of damage or leaks, and on the other guarantees greater protection against chemical substances dissolved in oils. The high quality painting, with two-component epoxy primer and glossy polyurethane finish, also ensures effective protection against wear and corrosion on the outside, prolonging the life of the tank.

The Di Camillo tanks for used oil are also equipped with two couplings, one for loading with a diameter of 320, and the other for taking out 2 and a half inch used oils with the appropriate cap, so as to facilitate the operations of filling and emptying. The outlets have an internal grid for filter dripping, which reduces the risk of environmental contamination. They are equipped as standard with a mechanical level indicator, visible externally to quickly and easily monitor the oil level inside without having to open the lid, and in the case of external tanks (code SROEE), with a lid with pistons gas powered to facilitate lifting and maintenance operations.

Investing in high-quality tanks, therefore, not only ensures regulatory compliance, but reduces the risk of negative environmental impacts. For responsible management of oily waste, rely on Di Camillo’s many years of experience, and choose our products born from over 50 years of experience in the creation of approved tanks and cisterns for fuel, diesel and used oils
